Welcome to my Blog. Today is Friday. March 24, 2017. I am in my study(see photo with my welcome letter) and beside me sits an interesting young man, Willy Kane, who I think is going to be one of those people who makes a difference to the world. This is going to be short, because I have to learn to do it right. If I have a blog-plan, it is to write about what it is to be a writer, to explore the experience of being an old person (80th birthday in June), to describe for you how drawing with colored pencils keeps me sane (see the Art Gallery link on the web site for now, and I will post new drawings on the blog as soon as I learn how. Another big topic I want to explore is a vital one at this moment in our history: the absolutely essential relationship between language and truth and how we practice it in our writing. It is a practice in itself! Oh, and finally I hope to describe the activity of working on my soul. Here is George Herbert, the English priest and poet (1593-1633), on soul work:
Summe up at night, what thou hast done by day; And in the morning, what thou hast to do. Dresse and undresse thy soul: mark the decay And growth of it: if with thy watch, that too Be down, then winde up both, since we shall be Most surely judg’d, make thy accounts agree.
And that’s enough for today.
